The Chesapeake 16
The Chesapeake 16 is actually 15' 8" long and approx. 43 lbs (depending on how liberal you are with the epoxy). It is mostly intended for day trips but could easily handle a short expedition. It is a hard chine model (as opposed to multi-chine) which means that it the hull is made from only four long pieces: two bottom pieces which form a shallow V and then two side pieces which are closer to vertical.
Here is a cross-section so you get the idea:
A hard chine boat will give you a little better handing but a little worse efficiency than a multi -chine boat; they are also much easier to build.
This website is a labor of love and I never expected anything in return. But if you want to show your appreciation while also helping the environment, then click through this link here to get to amazon.com the next time you plan on shopping there anyway. I will get a commission of 2.5-10% through their "associates program" and will donate 50% of that to the Sierra Club. Thanks, Tim
